GLENDORA KIWANIANNES-24 YEARS OF SERVICE By Joan Hallidy
See photo here.
The Kiwanis Club of Glendora Kiwaniannes, one of the newest clubs in Glendora, is celebrating its 24th year of service in the community. The club, established and chartered by Kiwanis International in 1984, is one of two separate, equal, Kiwanis clubs in Glendora, as neither of the two clubs is an auxiliary to the other. Some of the Glendora Kiwaniannes' Kiwanis service projects for this year, include the following: the Glendora Halloween Carnival, the Maxine Bergstrom Artists in Residence Grant Program for teachers, the EYE-DAS organization of the San Gabriel Valley for the vision-impaired, and the Glendora Coordinating Council's Holiday Baskets and the Campership Program.
Others are the Glendora Gardens Senior Dinner, the Glendora High School Girls Christmas Basketball, the Glendora Library's Great Trivia Challenge, 10 Scholarships for senior girls in area high schools, and the Veterans Philanthropy Program. In addition, the club sponsors four fundraising events and four recycling projects during the year. Prospective members are always welcome at the club meetings. The club meets the first and third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Glendora Continental Restaurant. Persons age 18 and older who are interested in community service are invited to call 626/914-5049 for more information or to make a reservation to attend a meeting.
